Qatargas participated in a career week at Texas A&M University Qatar to attract and engage with engineering students. Qatargas representatives from the Engineering, Human Resources, Learning and Development and Public Relations Departments participated in the event held from 22nd to 26th March 2015.
Qatargas’ participation in this event is part of our ongoing recruitment – oriented outreach programme called ‘Hayyakum’, which aims to ignite interest amongst National talent, in pursuing careers in the LNG Industry with Qatargas. The ‘Hayyakum’ campaign was launched in 2014 and each Hayyakum campaign targets Qatargas National recruitment requirements by focusing activities in partnership with the various departments, to attract students.
At the Texas A&M event last week, Qatargas had a booth display which enabled students to learn more about possible employment opportunities through our internship and scholarship graduate programmes. In addition, Qatargas Engineering employees delivered presentations to students. The presentations were titled ‘Reliability Engineering at Qatargas’ and ‘Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls & Advanced Process Engineering. Qatargas employees shared their own personal work experiences with the students, arousing their interest and prompting career discussions.
The Texas A&M students and faculty welcomed Qatargas’ participation and specifically the valuable insights into Qatargas as a workplace. A member of the Texas A&M Engineering faculty stated:
“We appreciate the time and effort Qatargas and the speakers put into the program. The students found the discussions very beneficial as it exposed them to how engineering systems and processes are used in plant facilities such as Qatargas.”
Qatargas will continue to provide ongoing opportunities and follow up with the students’ career interests. Activities planned for the future include plant visits and encouraging LinkedIn connections, as part of the Company’s drive to recruit high caliber National Talent.
